Get Access to a Dataset
Ready to map real neurons? Here's how to earn proofreading access. The same process works for every dataset we release. Once you've done it, you won't need to redo it and can jump to any open dataset.
How it works
You'll need a laptop or desktop. The proofreading tools don't run on a phone.

1
Unlock early access
Pick the dataset you want to help map, EyeWire II (mouse retina) or BANC (fly). Read our community principles, then email us to say you agree and request access.
-
2
Play and learn in the sandbox
Get comfortable editing neurons with no consequences. Try the fly sandbox, which has a simple built-in tutorial, or the mammal cortex sandbox. The mammal sandbox requires a Google login.

Make 10 example edits
Create 7 links showing accidental mergers (mark where to cut with Multicut points) and 3 links showing accidental splits (turn on the pieces that should join). Don't actually make the edits, just annotate where they should go. Use the Share button to save a link for each.

Send your links
Send us your 10 links. Click here to open an email with the subject ready to go, then paste your links in. We review them and send you personalized feedback.

Get your invitation
You're in! Based on your submission you'll be invited to the full dataset and can start mapping real neurons for science. Welcome to the team, the brain won't map itself.
There's no limit on tries, so you can request access as many times as you like. If you're unsure about anything, ask the community on the forum or feel free to email us.
